What's the difference between a manual and automatic transfer switch?
A manual switch you throw yourself when the power goes out. An automatic switch senses the outage and transfers on its own, which suits permanently installed standby generators. We size and recommend based on your generator and how hands-off you want it.
Can you connect a generator I already own?
Yes. Give us the make, model, and outlet configuration and we'll size the inlet, cord, and transfer equipment to match it.
How many circuits can my generator run?
That comes from the generator's rated output and the starting loads of what you want to power. We calculate it and group those circuits so you're not overloading the unit during an outage.
Do generator hookups need a permit?
Yes. Transfer equipment and generator circuits are permitted and inspected work, and IES handles that coordination.
